Surgery

NO NEED TO WORRY!
It's just tonsils. :) I get really bad tonsilitis a few times a year and my school's insurance finally decided to pay for it. Wooohooo. Thanks for all the concern.

  1. Glad to hear that its just the tonsils. Do you have anyone to help you while you're recovering?
I hope things go smoothly and send thanks to your university for providing health care. What a novel idea! Sending good thoughts your way.

  2. Oh phew! I was concerned, but I didn't want to be nosy. You should get some of those frozen smoothie packs before you go so you can just throw it in the blender! Also, popsicles =) Best of luck!

  3. Good luck with the surgery. I really hope it's an easy one.
Be sure to stock on ice cream and popsicles! They really help.
    Best wishes

  4. I had a tonsillectomy (at age 32) back in August. (It was an outpatient procedure, for me.)

I didn't end up using any of the popsicles I'd stocked up on, but ice cream, cold drinks, pudding, yogurt, soup, and some in-between foods (like instant mashed potatoes scrambled or hard-boiled eggs, soups with mushy chunks, pasta salad, and other pastas you can overcook a bit) are definitely good. E-mail me at sabowin@yahoo.com if you want to chat more about the tonsil thing. People had me very scared, but it wasn't nearly as bad as they said.

  5. Oooh, tonsils. My son had his removed three years ago when he was 12. Not a lot of fun, but he hasn't had a throat issue since. Like Sabowin, Jack didn't eat any of the popsicles or anything citrus - way to acidic. Creamy stuff like ice cream, pudding & yogurt were what he liked.

Take good care! We'll be sending you lots of good wishes!

  6. Thank goodness it was nothing more serious than tonsils, and good on your school for stepping up! That really must be a load off your mind...
And as for your family, just keep your chin up Ruth. We're all here for you, if only online. You have so many people pulling for you, people you've never met and never will - but in a little way, we can be your family too, and help you along, day by day...
    Thinking of you :)

  7. I had my tonsils removed when I was 27, it hurt very badly. I hope you can get a liquid pain medicine because a pill is impossible to swallow.

  8. My husband had his tonsils out when he was 33 or 34. It was pretty rough, but a few things we learned...

    1. Drink lots of water. You do not want those scabs drying out.

    2. If they give you pain meds, make sure you eat some food. He didn't and he ended up throwing up and that was excruciating for him.

    3. He actually preferred warm foods. He said that the cold stuff hurt. We had things like scrambled eggs, egg noodles with gravy, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese.

He is so glad that he had this done. He was constantly getting strep throat and since he's had his tonsils out, he hasn't had it.

Good luck to you...I really enjoy your blog!
